What Is A Base Jack?
A base jack is the initial component in the erection of a scaffolding system, used to adjust the balance of the scaffolding on uneven ground, ensuring the stability of the scaffolding structure.
A base jack is a type of screw jack, commonly used in scaffolding systems as a support or leveling device. The base jack is used to adjust the level of the scaffolding; it is installed at the bottom of the scaffolding system and adjusted by rotating the nut on the threaded rod. Adjusting the base jack allows the scaffolding to be level, providing a stable and safe scaffolding structure.
A base jack consists of three parts: a threaded rod, a base plate, and a jack nut.
The threaded rod is a long cylindrical steel pipe, available in solid and hollow versions, entirely threaded, and fixed to the base plate by welding or riveting.
The base plate is a flat, square steel plate used to secure the threaded rod. Base plates distribute the weight of scaffolding evenly across the ground, improving its load-bearing capacity and safety, and preventing it from sinking on soft ground.
Jack nuts, with threads matching those on threaded rods, are connected to the rods. Rotating the nut up or down adjusts the scaffolding to the appropriate height, and it won’t loosen under the rated load.
What Is A Screw Jack?
A screw jack is a more widely used type of screw jack that adjusts height via a screw mechanism for lifting, pushing, and positioning heavy objects. Besides its use in construction scaffolding, it can be applied in many other fields, such as vehicle lifting, industrial positioning, and structural support.
Difference Between Base Jack And Screw Jack
Main Functions
Base Jack: Stabilizes and levels scaffolding on uneven ground.
Screw Jack: Lifts, positions, or supports various loads.
Location/Purpose
Base Jack: Used at the bottom of scaffolding systems to adjust the scaffolding’s level and distribute the load evenly, preventing scaffolding from sinking.
Screw Jack: Can be used in a variety of applications, from automotive to heavy machinery.
Key Components
Base Jack: Threaded rod, base plate, and jack nut for distributing weight to the ground.
Screw Jack: Contains a threaded rod, nut, and handle/lever for lifting.
Relationship
Base Jack: A screw jack specifically designed for scaffolding.
Screw Jack: A general term for devices with this lifting mechanism.
